Detroit Lakes Winter Sports

Lots of snow and miles of trails equals a lot of great snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. By the way, don't forget your skates, or fishing pole!

Snowmobile more than 200 miles of groomed trails in the Detroit Lakes area. Over 50 miles of cross country ski trails are available on public and private property. At 1500 feet, Detroit Mountain offers skiing and snowboarding, with 15 trails and five lifts.

Don't let cold weather keep you from fishing! Fish houses and equipment are available for rent for winter ice fishing. Enjoy Detroit Lakes outdoors year-round.

Dunton Locks County Parks is nestled along the shores of Muskrat Lake and Lake Sallie. The park offers picnic shelters, fishing piers, a mechanical boat tram, a paved non-motorized recreation trail, as well as more rugged hiking, mountain biking trails.

Detroit Mountain is located two miles out of the city. The ski area opened in 1958 and features skiing, snowboarding and cross-country. It also has a ski shop with all the latest equipment and a terrain park with a half pipe for snowboarders.

Detroit Lakes has two ice sheets; one has an 85' x 195' cement floor, 1500 seating capacity with sound system. The second is a practice sheet with an 85' x 200' cement floor. There are ten large dressing rooms available in the complex. The arena offers multi-recreational activities including: High School & Youth Hockey, Figure Skating Lessons & Shows, Open Skating, Old Timers Hockey, and International Hockey School. The Kent Freeman arena is the home of the International Hockey School that takes place in the summer months allowing boys and girls to learn to improve their hockey skills while also enjoying the beautiful lake area with their families.


Lincoln Ice Skating Rink

The Lincoln Ice Skating Rink is located in the MeritCare Park and provides a large open skating area that includes skating pathways around islands with trees and shrubs. The Lincoln rink also has two hockey rinks and is lit at night. The rink is open in the winter season when weather permits, usually mid-December to February.
