Musicians At The Lodge. . .

  • FLORIAN CHMIELEWSKI

FLORIAN CHMIELEWSKI

For over 100 years and through 6 generations, the Chmielewski family has been synonymous with polka music. Florian Chmielewski became the leader of the band in 1945 when he received his 1st accordion at age 18. Born in Sturgeon Lake, MN on February 10, 1927, with 14 siblings, Florian went from a dairy farmer, to a County Commissioner, to a MN State Senator, never once, giving up his love for the accordion. He began weekly radio shows performing with his 4 brothers, before the broadcasting of the Chmielewski Funtime TV show for the next 35 years, seen Nationwide.

Sophie Thiel

Sophie Thiel began to pursue music as a teenager in choir, musicals, and other public events. From national anthems, to Christmas recording projects, she has stuck with her passion for music. She is currently in the studio working on an album project; a five song EP which will be released this summer 2013. Peter Thiel, her older brother, is producing her album project (Remnant Records). Her single, "You Know Me By Heart", which came out this last November, will be the inspiring song for her first music video. Filming for the video will take place this summer as well.

Reynold Philipsek

Reynold Philipsek has been a working musician since he first joined the Musicians Union when he was fourteen years old. Reynold has made 25 albums which are available via his website, CDBaby, or Amazon. Among his early influences are jazz guitarists Django Reinhardt, Pat Martino and Joe Pass. Reynold's recordings have been reviewed by Acoustic Guitar Magazine, 20th Century Guitar Magazine, Guitar Player, Vintage Guitar and other publications.

Nick Fryer Trio

Nick Fryer, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, arrived in the Fargo-Moorhead, MN area by way of Chicago, IL in August of 2008 to begin working as Assistant Professor of Music at Minnesota State University Moorhead where he teaches guitar, jazz combos, and directs the MSUM Jazz Guitar Ensemble. Before coming to Fargo-Moorhead, Nick was an active member of the vibrant music scene in Chicago for seven years.

Matt Velline

Matt Velline began his musical journey at age 10. Father, Bill Velline handed him his 1959 Fender Jazzmaster guitar, taught him a G chord and he was hooked...the first song he learned was Peggy Sue...appropriate since Buddy Holly had sadly given Matt's dad and younger brother Bobby their musical start as Bobby Vee and the Shadows. On February 3rd, 1959 Buddy Holly was traveling to Moorhead Minnesota with The Big Bopper, Richie Valens, and young pilot Roger Peterson. They never made it and crashed only minutes after take-off in a terrible snowstorm.
