A Sensational Spa: Prepare to be pampered at new full-service spa in Detroit Lakes
a full- service spa with a natural theme Our whole hotel is focused on wellness It’s a smoke-free hotel with a fitness room, and we have healthy foods on the menu, and some organic foods… even some of the spa products are organic. Signs of nature are all around the 50,000-square-foot lodge, from an oak leaf motif in the guest rooms to the colorful fish mosaic at the front desk. We want to not only pamper our guests, but to create that experience where you can rejuvenate and relax, even if it’s just for a few days The Spa Within staff is certified in different treatments and therapies The spa is open to community members and groups as well as hotel guests. Reservations are recommended, but not required.
Facilities in the spa include three treatment rooms, extra-wide massage tables, a menu with snacks and wines and cushy “pedicure thrones.” It also has two locker rooms, and each is equipped with a steam shower.
It’s all about the senses. You’ll walk in, be given a bathrobe and slippers, and your spa experience begins.
Available treatments include massages, facials and hot stone treatments. Prices range from $75 to $135 per treatment, depending on the length of the treatment and cost of products. Special packages are also available. Haircuts are not offered, but you can get a quick styling before you leave the spa. Manicures and pedicures are also available. “We’re not so much about the artificial nails,” says Holland-Mehlhaff. “We use an odorless nail product that makes nails grow without damage … it’s more of a nail extension.”
The spa’s creators tried to incorporate the beauty of the Detroit Lakes region into their design, using soothing water sounds and hot stone treatments to match the waves and pebbles on the beach.
“It’s the lake effect,” says spa director Brenda Deno.
The luxuries of this spa aren’t designed just for women; there are lots of men who travel and things too, who recognize the necessity of de-stressing, detoxifying … and what’s wrong with a man with nice toes as well? It’s a grooming thing.”
Deno thinks the spa will be “a great addition to the community.” She has had experience as the director of a spa in Anoka for five years, as well as a background in massage therapy and cosmetology.
“Our feedback so far has been spectacular,” said Holland-Mehlhaff. “Lots of people drive to Fargo for this experience, so they’re excited to have it in DL.”
Hours for the spa are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday-Saturday 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Spa customers can come by car or boat to The Lodge on Lake Detroit, which is located at 1200 East Shore Drive. For reservations, call 847-1895.
