Prior to the Lodge being built, my husband and I owned and operated the Castaway Motel & Resort, which was torn down along the space where the Lodge now is. We dreamed about this for 15 years before opening in 2006. It’s located along 550 feet of lakeshore on the East Shore of Big Detroit Lake, and each room faces the lake. One of our mottos is, “Come for the sunsets, stay for the experience.”
Time for R&R
We host frequent “LIVE at the Lodge” music events in our lakefront lobby, open to hotel guests and the public. We just started the “Coloring Between the Wines” event, which includes an adult coloring book and a glass of wine — a great stress reliever for grown-ups. Plus, it overlooks the lake! Every night at 8 p.m., guests can also have a s’more in the lobby and in the summer they can do all kinds of complimentary outdoor activities such as paddleboard, kayak, and grill.
Shades of green
We’re big into green efforts and have made sustainable changes throughout all parts of the hotel, including taking steps to restore and preserve the shoreline of the lake. We incorporate things like inroom recycling, use of organic foods and wine in the hotel, and we’ve eliminated most disposable products used for the complimentary breakfast. Guests can enjoy their vacation knowing their stay will have minimal impact on the environment.
